An Eggceptional Day

I’ve never really got into using YouTube and as such I don ‘t understand where the rules fall on copyright for backing tracks. This weeks module for CJ’s Advanced Artistry was to create a short stop motion movie. I’ve not done this before and I thoroughly enjoyed it, until I came to post it somewhere that is.

One of my favourite all time tracks is Better Together by Jack Johnson and I thought it would be nice to use this to accompany my video. My video is only 57 seconds long but the first part of the track fitted in well and I promptly saved it. The others in the class have all done similar and I didn’t think anything of it, until I loaded it to YouTube.

YouTube has flagged my video as Content ID matched and it is blocked from being viewed in Germany. On looking into this I came across this info

There are three usage policies—Block, Track or Monetise. If a rights owner specifies a Block policy, the video will not be viewable. If the rights owner specifies a Track policy, the video will continue to be made available on YouTube and the rights owner will receive information about the video, such as how many views it receives. For a Monetise policy, the video will continue to be available on YouTube and ads will appear in conjunction with the video. The policies can be region-specific, so a content owner can allow a particular piece of material in one country and block the material in another.

I think this leads me to believe that my video is ok (apart from in Germany) and that the adverts appearing on it are part of the monetise policy but I’m more than happy to be corrected by someone who knows about these things. I know I could post it without music but its not quite the same and so I have left it as it is but it is not listed publicly, only folk with the link can see it and I will be deleting it after a week or so (once the course tutor has seen it etc etc)

I thought I would share it here with you but I am only attaching a ‘silent movie’ version I’m afraid as my blog is public. I hope you still enjoy it.

Thanks for dropping by and please feel free to leave me a comment.

WOW! This is great..well done you.I'm sure the music would have been lovely, but not having it certainly didn't detract from your film!
